Part 1: Framing and Applied Precedents
Introduce educators to the context of Catalyst, The Innovation Lab for Educators, and the work of Citizen Schools as well as the culture of the Lab, the broader scope of the learning progression. Develop a sense of the Teacher as a Creative Professional and current creative learning landscape in education. Set shared and personal expectations and vision for the Lab journey.
Part 2: Precedent Presentation / Brainstorming
Using a project brief and series of precedents from Part 1, educators and mentors will facilitate presentation and analysis of precedents and model critique. They will then facilitate a group brainstorming process.
Part 3: Ideation / Critique
Using ideas/groups generated from Part 3, students will brainstorm within a small group context to further refine ideas, participate in additional precedent and design research, work through ideas in sketches, and more deeply develop one idea through sketches.
Part 4: Presenting Ideas & Embodying Critique Culture
Using a predefined format, students will prepare a presentation of their process and final idea from Project 3, including a project thesis, to the class. Concepts of Critique Culture are introduced to students. Educators and mentors will model initial feedback and students will offer critique and feedback to other student groups.
